No podemos negar que las series y películas basadas en historias reales nos intrigan más de lo normal. Solo con leer 'inspirado en hechos reales' se nos pone la piel de gallina y la curiosidad por saber qué hecho tan surrealista ha podido pasar en la vida real para que haya dado pie a la creación de un guion nos parece algo irresistible. Total, que pocas veces cambiamos de canal cuando sabemos que lo que estamos a punto de ver ha sido algo real que ha superado a la ficción —o al menos, no sin darle una oportunidad—.
We cannot deny that series and movies based on true stories intrigue us more than usual. Just reading 'inspired by real events' gives us goose bumps and the curiosity to know what such surreal event has happened in real life that has led to the creation of a script seems irresistible to us. Overall, we rarely switch channel when we know that what we are about to see has been something real that has surpassed fiction —or at least, not without giving it a chance.

Para descubrir algunas cosas más que se nos pasan a simple vista, he hablado con Agata Maszkiewicz, la diseñadora de vestuario de 'Scorpion'.
Those of you who have seen the series will know that each member of the Scorpion group has a very particular style, something that defines and identifies them. I mean, what would Cabe Gallo (Robert Patrick) be without his sunglasses or Toby Curtis (Eddie Kaye Thomas) without his hat? To find out a few more things that slip past the naked eye, I spoke to Agata Maszkiewicz, the costume designer for 'Scorpion'.

Agata tenía muy claro desde la adolescencia que su trabajo estaba en los sets de vestuario: "Estaba de visita en Stratford, Inglaterra, con mi padre cuando tenía 14 años. Un amigo suyo estaba a cargo del almacén de vestuario del teatro. Nunca había visto algo así antes, ni siquiera imaginé que podía existir. Había filas y filas de atuendos. El apartado de Juliet parecía no tener fin. Fue el paraíso para mí. Cuando muera es ahí donde quiero terminar", nos cuenta la diseñadora.
Agata was very clear from her teens that her work was in costume sets: "I was visiting Stratford upon Avon, England with my dad when I was 14. A friend of friend of his was running the theater wardrobe warehouse. I had never seen anything like it before or even imagined that it could exist. There were rows and rows of costumes. The Juliet alley alone seemed endless. It was heaven for me. When I die that's were I want to end up", the designer tells us.

Agata Maszkiewicz ha sido la diseñadora de vestuario de series como 'The Starter Wife', 'Detroit 187', 'Necessary Roughness', 'Intelligence' y, cómo no, de 'Scorpion': "Creo que lo principal que recuerdo de 'Scorpion' es comprar todo en sets, al menos cuatro, pero preferiblemente seis. Siempre había tantas acrobacias que necesitábamos todo en múltiples. Recuerdo haber hecho algunos atuendos locos. Una vez hicimos un traje de buceo en seco para Cabe con unas bolsas de gimnasia. Necesitábamos crear uno, ponérselo a Robert Patrick y luego dejarlo caer desde el muelle de San Pedro. La noche antes no pude dormir... estaba aterrorizada de que se derrumbara en el agua del océano o tirara de Robert Patrick al fondo. Afortunadamente todo salió a la perfección", confiesa Agata.
Agata Maszkiewicz has been the costume designer for series such as' The Starter Wife','Detroit 187',' Necessary Roughness', 'Intelligence' and, of course, 'Scorpion': "I think the main thing I remember about 'Scorpion' is buying everything in sets, at least of four but preferably six. There were always so many stunts happening that we needed everything in multiples. I remember making some crazy outfits. One time we made a dry diving suit for Cabe out of some gym bags. We needed to create one and put Robert Patrick in it then drop him from the pier in San Pedro. The night before I couldn't sleep, I was terrified that it would either fall apart in the he ocean water or pull Robert to the bottom. Fortunately all went perfectly", confesses Agata.

Aunque los atuendos que vemos para el día a día tienen que ser prácticos para poder desenvolverse con agilidad en todas las misiones que les asignan, hay algunos episodios donde, las acciones encubiertas les obligan a ir más elegantes de la cuenta: "Creo que mi outfit favorito es un simple vestido negro que usó Paige Dineen (Katharine McPhee) en la segunda temporada, episodio 14. Le quedaba muy bien y lo llevaba en una fiesta organizada por un dictador africano. Había muchos colores y texturas en la habitación, por lo que destacó en virtud de su simplicidad", nos explica la diseñadora.
Although the outfits that we see for the day to day have to be practical to be able to function with agility in all the missions that they are assigned, there are some episodes where covert actions force them to be more elegant: "I think my favorite outfit is a simple black dress that Paige Dineen (Katharine McPhee) wore in the second season, episode 14. It fit her beautifully and she was wearing it for a party thrown by an African dictator. There was a lot off color and texture in the room, so she stood out by virtue of it simplicity", the designer explains.

Hay accesorios que son imprescindibles para los protagonistas, como el gorro de Toby, que es algo sagrado para él. Pero, ¿qué nos puede contar Agata sobre esta elección? Atentos: "Que Toby llevase gorro se decidió en el episodio piloto (yo no lo hice) y a todos les gustó, así que se convirtió en lo suyo".
There are accessories that are essential for the protagonists, such as Toby's hat, which is something sacred to him. But what can Agata tell us about this choice?: "It was decided in the pilot which I didn't do and everyone liked it so it became his thing."

Aparte de los atuendos elegantes y los accesorios, hay episodios donde vemos al equipo Scorpion al completo enfundado en trajes de lo más divertidos y originales: "Definitivamente fue una de las partes más divertidas del trabajo. ¡Es tan difícil elegir solo un episodio favorito! Sería entre el episodio de Superhéroes de la temporada 2 y la Feria del Renacimiento, temporada 4. Ver a Robert Patrick en traje con pantalones cortos me mata hasta el día de hoy. Tengo debilidad por los trajes de baile del primer episodio de la cuarta temporada y el vestido de flamenco de Happy. La hija adolescente de mi asistente fue nuestra modelo de ajuste para el vestido de flamenco, estuvo de pie pacientemente durante horas mientras le cubríamos con una cantidad infinita de tela hasta que conseguimos el look correcto", confiesa Agata.
Aside from the fancy outfits and accessories, there are episodes where we see the entire Scorpion team clad in the funniest and most original outfits: "That was definitely one of the funnest part of the job. So hard to choose. It's a toss up between the Superhero episode from season 2 and the Renaissance Fair, season 4. Robert Patrick in a suit with shorts kills me to this day. I do have a soft spot for the dance number outfits from the first episode of season four and Happy’s flamingo dress. My assistant's teenage daughter was our fit model for the flamingo dress, she stood patiently for hours while we draped endless amount of fabric on her until we got the right look", Agata confesses.

Sin duda alguna, encargarse del vestuario de Scorpion es todo un reto. No hablamos de una serie plana donde los personajes de pasean y sientan sin ningún riesgo, sino que vemos a Walter O'Brien, Toby Curtis, Happy Quinn , Sylvester Dodd, Cabe Gallo y Paige Dineen enfrentarse a numerosos retos episodio tras episodio. Es por eso que el vestuario tenía que estar bien adaptado a las peripecias que llevaban a cabo sus protagonistas para, así, ahorrarse alguna que otra sorpresa de última hora. Agata Maszkiewicz y su equipo de vestuario no solo estuvieron a la altura de las circunstancias, sino que pasaron cada una de las arriesgadas pruebas con éxito.Without a doubt, being in charge of Scorpion's wardrobe is a challenge. We are not talking about a series where the characters walk and sit without any risk; we see Walter O'Brien, Toby Curtis, Happy Quinn, Sylvester Dodd, Cabe Gallo, and Paige Dineen face numerous challenges episode after episode. That is why the costumes had to be well adapted to the adventures carried out by its protagonists in order to save some last-minute surprises. Agata Maszkiewicz and her team not only rose to the occasion, they passed each of the risky tests with flying colors.
