SECRETOS DE VESTUARIO: DETRÁS DE 'HANNAH MONTANA: THE MOVIE'

Un patrón que se repetía frecuentemente en la época dorada de Disney Channel era producir una película de una serie que tenía bastante tirada. De esta manera, 'Los Magos de Waverly Place' tuvieron sus 90 minutos, al igual que '¡Buena Suerte, Charlie!', 'Zack y Cody: Todos a bordo' y, cómo no, 'Hannah Montana'. Sin embargo, solo una de todas ellas tuvo un estreno en la gran pantalla, con una banda sonora extraordinaria (de la que ni siquiera Miley reniega y, si no me creéis, mirad qué canción cantó en la Super Bowl de este año) y un vestuario de ensueño. 

A frequently repeated pattern in Disney Channel's golden age was to produce a movie of a series that had a good run. Thus, 'The Wizards of Waverly Place' had its 90 minutes, as did 'Good Luck, Charlie!', 'The Suite Life on Deck', and, of course, 'Hannah Montana'. However, only one of them all had a big screen premiere, with an extraordinary soundtrack (which even Miley doesn't deny and, if you don't believe me, look at the song she sang at this year's Super Bowl) and a dreamy wardrobe.

Si bien el vestuario de Hannah Montana siempre se ha caracterizado por colores estridentes, lentejuelas, complementos dorados y plateados, y más lentejuelas, en 'Hannah Montana: The movie' vemos cómo sus atuendos son de otro nivel. Sin perder en ningún momento su esencia y lo que caracteriza su estilo, en la película, vemos a una Hannah mucho más chic, luciendo conjuntos que, por primera vez, nos hubiese gustado robarle. 

While Hannah Montana's wardrobe has always been characterized by garish colors, sequins, gold and silver accessories, and more sequins, in 'Hannah Montana: The movie' we see how her outfits are on another level. Without ever losing her essence and what characterizes her style, in the film, we see a much more chic Hannah, wearing outfits that, for the first time, we would have liked to steal from her.

Y qué decir del vestuario de Miley Stewart: looks aparentemente sencillos con un toque country que nos van enamorando más y más a lo largo de la película. Pero, la pregunta es: ¿cómo se creó el vestuario para esta producción?, ¿qué hay detrás de la elección del maravilloso vestido blanco combinado con el carding azul que nos dejó a todos sin palabras? Para saber todo esto y más, he tenido el enorme placer de hablar con Christopher Lawrence, el genio que se esconde detrás del vestuario de esta película. 

And what can we say about Miley Stewart's wardrobe: apparently simple looks with a country touch that we fall in love with more and more throughout the movie. But, the question is: how was the wardrobe created for this production? what is behind the choice of the wonderful white dress with the blue shrug that left us all speechless? To find out all this and more, I had the great pleasure of speaking with Christopher Lawrence, the genius behind the costumes for this film.

'Hannah Montana: The movie' no fue como las demás producciones de Disney; esta tuvo algo que cautivó a la audiencia y uno de los grandes factores que contribuyeron al éxito  fue la magia que transmitieron los outfits ideados por Christopher: "Sobre todo, lo que quería hacer en esta película era recuperar la inocencia de las adolescentes. Cuando se hizo esta película, gran parte de la moda entre adolescentes, en mi opinión, era demasiado adulta. Quería traer de vuelta los tirantes anchos en los tops, volantes y todas las cosas que mostraran lo divertido que es ser una chica. Los outfits campestres de Miley (petos, pantalones cortos y camisetas vintage) fueron una gran oportunidad para poder exhibir lo divertido que puede llegar a ser ser adolescente", nos cuenta el diseñador. 

'Hannah Montana: The Movie' was not like other Disney productions; this one had something that captivated the audience and one of the big factors that contributed to its success was the magic conveyed by the outfits designed by Christopher: "Mostly what I wanted to do in this film was bring back the innocence of teenage girls. When this movie was made much of the tween fashion was too adult in my view. I wanted to bring back wider straps on tops and ruffles and all things that showed how fun it is to be a girl. Miley’s country costumes (overalls, shorts and a vintage top) were a great opportunity to be able to showcase running around and being a teenager", the designer tells us.

Y Christopher Lawrence no podría tener más razón. Vivimos en una sociedad donde la presión social y la maldición de las redes sociales parece que te obliguen a crecer más rápido o, al menos, a vestirte para aparentarlo, así que siempre será un regalo para el mundo ver películas como esta para recordarnos lo maravilloso que es disfrutar de cada etapa y, sobre todo, divertirnos y jugar con la moda porque, ¿qué hay de malo en eso? 

And Christopher Lawrence couldn't be more right. We live in a society where social pressure and the curse of social media seems to force you to grow up faster or at least dress to look like it, so it will always be a gift to the world to see films like this to remind us how wonderful it is to enjoy every stage and, above all, have fun and play with fashion because what's wrong with that?

Como gran admiradora del vestuario de 'Hannah Montana: The movie' no pude resistirme a preguntarle al diseñador de vestuario por uno de las vestidos que impactaron más a la audiencia. Sí, estoy hablando del maravilloso vestido blanco que nos mostró a una Hannah Montana de lo más chic como nunca antes la habíamos visto: "El vestido blanco que Hannah usa para la cena del alcalde era otro lugar en el que podía usar un vestido sin tirantes, pero le puse un top de tirantes debajo para hacerlo más inocente y luego puse un cardigan cortito para hacerlo más moderno. Después, hice que un artista de graffiti pintara el dobladillo del vestido con círculos negros. Incluso pusimos un Mickey escondido en el borde del estampado", nos cuenta Christopher. 

As a big fan of the wardrobe of 'Hannah Montana: The movie' I couldn't resist asking the costume designer about one of the dresses that shocked the audience the most. Yes, I'm talking about the wonderful white dress that showed us a chic Hannah Montana as we had never seen her before: "The white dress that Hannah wears to the mayor’s dinner was another place I could use a strapless dress but I put a tank top underneath it to make it more innocent and then put a little shrug over that to make it more fashion forward. Hannah has an edge being a rockstar, so I had a graffiti artist paint the hem of the dress with the black circles. We even put a hidden Mickey in the border of that print", Christopher tells us.

Aunque este vestido fue uno de los más aclamados por los espectadores, a lo largo de la película el personaje de Hannah nos deleita con otros outfits que nos dejan sin respiración, como el increíble vestido rosa con el que canta 'Let's Get Crazy', el conjunto de la falda de cuadros y la chaqueta a rayas cuando tienen que aparentar que Hannah llega a Tennesse por primera vez o el increíble vestido de lentejuelas con el que se sube al escenario al principio de la película. "La película me dio la oportunidad de elevar la moda de Hannah. El vestido blanco es uno de mis favoritos, pero también me encanta el vestido de apertura, que es un vestido de punto, por lo que tiene un gran ajuste, pero está cubierto con lentejuelas de cuero de varios colores (lentejuelas grandes). Concentramos unas doradas para crear una estrella. Esta fue una excelente manera de mostrar a la audiencia que se trataba de una nueva Hannah, una Hannah más a la moda. Sin embargo, cuando Tyra Banks se encuentra con sus compras, ella es Hannah, pero tiene los tirantes más anchos y los volantes de la adolescente inocente que quería retratar", nos explica Christopher.

Although this dress was one of the most acclaimed by viewers, throughout the film Hannah's character delights us with other outfits that take our breath away, such as the incredible pink dress with which she sings 'Let's Get Crazy', the set of plaid skirt and striped jacket when they have to pretend that Hannah arrives in Tennessee for the first time or the incredible sequined dress with which she gets on stage at the beginning of the film. "The film gave me the opportunity to elevate the fashion of Hannah. The white dress is a real favorite but I also love the opening dress which is a knit dress so has a great fit but is covered in leather multi colored paillettes (large sequins). We concentrated gold one to create a star. This was a great way to show the audience that this was a new Hannah, a more fashion forward Hannah. However, when Tyra Banks meets her shopping, she is Hannah but has the wider straps and the ruffles of the innocent teenager I wanted to portray", Christopher explains.

El diseñador continúa: "También usé estrellas en la mayoría de los outfits de Hannah. Están en las joyas y en los patrones. Están subliminalmente muy presentes. Después de todo, ella es una estrella del pop". 

The designer continues: "I also used stars in most of Hannah’s costumes. It’s in the jewelry, it’s in the patterns. They are subliminally very present. She is the definitive pop star after all".

Los que habéis visto la película, estaréis de acuerdo conmigo cuando digo que 'Hannah Montana: The Movie' nos regaló risas, alguna lagrimilla y dos joyas eternas: 'The Climb' y un vestuario que nos dejó con la boca abierta de principio a fin. ¿Quién no daría lo que fuese por tener en su armario tanto los looks de Hannah como de Miley? Christopher Lawrence fue el encargado de llevar a la gran pantalla un gran fenómeno musical y estilístico, lo que, inevitablemente, supone una gran carga debido a las expectativas de millones de fans que habían estado siguiendo la serie de televisión desde el episodio uno. Y la realidad fue que, durante toda la producción, no solo vimos la esencia de Miley y Hannah completamente intacta, sino que, por primera vez desde la creación de los personajes, los fans pudieron identificarse y adorar el estilo de ambos mundos. 

Those of you who have seen the movie will agree with me when I say that 'Hannah Montana: The Movie' gave us laughs, some tears and two timeless gems: 'The Climb' and a wardrobe that left us open-mouthed from beginning to end. Who wouldn't give anything to have both Hannah's and Miley's looks in their closet? Christopher Lawrence was in charge of bringing a great musical and stylistic phenomenon to the big screen, which, inevitably, is a great burden due to the expectations of millions of fans who had been following the TV series since episode one. And the reality was that, throughout the production, not only did we see the essence of Miley and Hannah fully intact, but, for the first time since the characters' creation, fans could identify with and adore the style of both worlds.
