'Ghosts of Girlfriends Past' es una película estrenada en 2009 protagonizada por los insuperables Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, Michael Douglas y una joven (y casi irreconocible) Emma Stone. La trama principal del film gira entorno a Conner Mead (McConaughey), un mujeriego sin remedio que vive según las reglas amorosas que le enseñó en su adolescencia su tío Wayne (Douglas). Sin embargo, con la aparición de Allison (Stone), su fantasma del pasado, Connor tendrá la oportunidad de volver a presenciar las decisiones que tomó y cómo estas afectaron a su relación con Jenny (Garner). 'Ghosts of Girlfriends Past' is a movie released in 2009 starring the unsurpassed Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, Michael Douglas and a young (and almost unrecognizable) Emma Stone. The film's main plot revolves around Conner Mead (McConaughey), a hopeless womanizer who lives by the rules of love taught to him as a teenager by his uncle Wayne (Douglas). However, with the appearance of Allison (Stone), his ghost from the past, Connor will have the opportunity to revisit the choices he made and how they affected his relationship with Jenny (Garner). But it doesn't stop there. Thanks to his ghosts from the present and the future, Connor Mead will witness how Jenny rebuilds her life and how lonely he will be in recent years, a shock heavy enough to turn his life around and try to make amends for the mistakes made in the past.

With the jumps from past, present and future, we not only see how the plot evolves, but we also witness how the costumes of the main characters are adapted to each era. Denise Wingate, the costume designer for 'Ghosts of Girlfriends Past', tells us how the characters' styles were created and the challenges of dressing the actors for different periods.

En este film vemos a una muy joven Emma Stone con un increíble outfit ochentero que consigue que casi ni la reconozcamos. ¿Cómo fue vestir a la actriz en estas circunstancias? La diseñadora nos lo explica: "Creo que lo que más destaca del vestuario del film es el hecho de haber adaptado a Emma Stone (fue una de sus primeras películas) con un traje de los años 80. Nuestra prueba original fue muy divertida y duró horas. Ella fue divertidísima. Este es el look con el que finalmente nos quedamos."
In this film we see a very young Emma Stone with an incredible eighties outfit that makes us hardly recognize her. What was it like to dress the actress in these circumstances? The designer explains it to us: "I think the thing that stands out most was fitting Emma Stone (it was one of her first films) in an 80’s outfit. Our original fitting was so much fun and lasted hours. She was hilarious. This is the look we ended up settling on."

Sin embargo, Emma Stone no fue la única que tuvo que caracterizarse para rodar estas escenas: "Las escenas de flashback se centraron menos en la ropa ¡y más en el pelo de Matthew!", confiesa Denise. La diseñadora continúa: "Se discutió mucho sobre su peluca y muy poco de lo que llevaban puesto. Recuerdo que esas escenas eran muy fáciles desde el punto de vista del vestuario".
However, Emma Stone wasn't the only one who had to be characterized to shoot these scenes: "The flashback scenes were less about the clothes and all about Matthews hair!", Denise confesses. The designer continues: "There was so much discussion about his wig and very little about what they were wearing. I remember those scenes being very easy from a costume standpoint".

"'Ghosts of Girlfriends Past' la hicimos en 2008 en Boston Massachusetts. Lo que más recuerdo de esa sesión fue el frío que hacía. Es muy difícil, sobre todo, cuando las chicas llevan vestidos de cóctel y de dama de honor durante la mayor parte del rodaje, como fue en este caso", nos cuenta Denise Wingate.
"'Ghosts of Girlfriends Past' we made in 2008 in Boston Massachusetts. The thing I remember most about that shoot was how cold it was. So hard when you have girls wearing slinky cocktail and bridesmaids dresses for most of it!", Denise Wingate tells us.

Y no podría ser más cierto. Jennifer Garner y las co-protagonistas de 'Ghosts of Girlfriends Pasts' fueron las encargadas de lucir unos de los vestidos más bonitos de toda la película, como los elegantes looks de damas de honor: "Sinceramente, no recuerdo dónde conseguimos los vestidos de las damas de honor, sé que nos probamos un montón de ellos con Jennifer Garner y nos decidimos por este precioso berenjena", nos explica la diseñadora.
And it couldn't be more true. Jennifer Garner and the co-stars of 'Ghosts of Girlfriends Pasts' were on hand to wear some of the prettiest dresses in the entire film, as the elegant bridesmaid looks: "I honestly can’t remember where we got the bridesmaids dresses. I know we tried a bunch of different ones on Jennifer Garner and settling on this beautiful aubergine one", the designer explains.

Como todos los proyectos, vestir a grandes actores para tres épocas distintas también tuvo sus retos pero, ¿cómo recuerda Denise la experiencia de trabajar en esta película? "Me encantó trabajar en esa película. Acabo de terminar otra película con el mismo director, Mark Waters (un remake de una película que hice hace 20 años llamada 'She's All That'... esta se llama 'He's All That'). Es un director estupendo y nos llevamos muy bien. El reparto fue muy divertido, así que en general fue una experiencia maravillosa", confiesa la diseñadora.
Like all projects, dressing great actors for three different eras also had its challenges, but how does Denise remember the experience of working on this film? "I loved working on that movie. I just finished another film the same director Mark Waters (a remake of a movie I did 20 years ago called 'She’s All That'… this one is called 'He’s All That'). He’s such a terrific director and we get along so well, the cast was great fun, so all in all it was a wonderful experience".
