SECRETOS DE VESTUARIO: DETRÁS DE 'THE HATING GAME'
'Todo vale en el amor y en la guerra', le preguntaba una perspicaz Kate Hudson a un joven Matthew McConaughey en 'Cómo perder a un chico en 10 días' allá por 2003. Sin embargo, este pasado viernes 10 de diciembre se estrenó una película que reinventa este famoso y clásico dicho y que nos ha vuelto a demostrar que del odio al amor hay tan solo un paso (y viceversa).
'All is fair in love and war', asked a perceptive Kate Hudson to a young Matthew McConaughey in 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' back in 2003. However, this past Friday, December 10, a movie was released that reinvents this famous and classic saying and has once again shown us that from hate to love there is only one step (and vice versa).

Basada en el best seller de Sally Thorne, 'The Hating Game' cuenta la historia de Lucy Hutton (Lucy Hale) y Joshua Templeman (Austin Stowell), quienes no solo rivalizan día tras día en el trabajo, sino que se verán aún más enfrentados por conseguir un ascenso. Sin embargo, ese aparente odio a primera vista dará paso a algo más y nos demostrará que 'todo vale en el amor y... en el trabajo'.
Based on the best-selling by Sally Thorne, 'The Hating Game' tells the story of Lucy Hutton (Lucy Hale) and Joshua Templeman (Austin Stowell), who not only rival each other day after day at work, but will find themselves even more at odds to get a promotion. However, that apparent hatred at first sight will give way to something more and will show us that 'all is fair in love and... at work'.

With a chic-vintage style and a romantic touch, Lucy surprises us with flowing shirts adorned with bows, reddish and camel tones, and a beautiful little black dress that has a special connotation in the plot of the film. And to find out how her wardrobe was created and what was the inspiration for the character's closet, we have the great pleasure of talking to Astrid Brucker, the costume designer of 'The Hating Game'.

'Joshua', 'Price Check', 'Silver Tongues', 'Starved', 'Three Perfect Days', o 'Changing Hearts' son solamente algunas de las producciones donde podemos ver el trabajo de la artista. Graduada en Parsons School of Design, Astrid Brucker empezó en el mundo de la moda en New York, diseñando trajes de noche y vestidos, y dio el salto al diseño de vestuario con Circle Rep Theater y con el coreógrafo Jerome Robbins en su ballet 'In The Night'. Además, Astrid Brucker es la diseñadora de su propio firma, Astridland que incluye tops, vestidos, partes de abajo, chaquetas e increíbles vestidos de noche.
Joshua', 'Price Check', 'Silver Tongues', 'Starved', 'Three Perfect Days', or 'Changing Hearts' are just some of the productions where we can see the artist's work. A graduate of Parsons School of Design, Astrid Brucker started in the fashion world in New York, designing evening suits and dresses, and made the leap to costume design with Circle Rep Theater and with choreographer Jerome Robbins on his ballet 'In The Night'. In addition, Astrid Brucker is the designer of her own brand, Astridland which includes tops, dresses, bottoms, jackets and incredible evening dresses.

Solo necesitas ver los cinco primeros minutos de la película para darte cuenta de algo: el vestuario de Lucy Hutton es único, icónico e inconfundible. ¿Cuál fue la inspiración para crearlo desde cero? "El estilo de Lucy es vintage chic, no compra en el centro comercial. Al principio, investigué mucho en Internet y compartí con la directora los tableros de ideas. Afortunadamente, cuando compraba en el norte del estado de Nueva York recibía referencias de otras tiendas vintage y esto me ayudaba a encontrar los mejores looks vintage para ella", comenta la diseñadora.
You only need to watch the first five minutes of the film to realize something: Lucy Hutton's wardrobe is unique, iconic and unmistakable. What was the inspiration for creating it from scratch? "Lucy’s style is vintage chic-she does not buy off the rack or in the shopping mall. In the beginning I did a lot of online research and shared mood boards with the director. Fortunately, when I was shopping in upstate New York I received referrals to other vintage shops and this helped me find the best vintage looks", the designer tells us.

Sin hacer mucho spoiler, en la película hay un punto de inflexión marcado por un maravilloso little black dress que luce Lucy y que será el comienzo de un 'nuevo juego' entre la protagonista y Joshua: "El diseñador del precioso vestido negro es Joos Tricot. Tenía el nivel de sofisticación y encanto sin ser demasiado sexy. Porque Lucy está en su trabajo de editora y todavía tiene que parecer profesional y este vestido fue la mejor elección. Es la transición perfecta de su look de bibliotecaria a una mujer que planea una cita después del trabajo", cuenta Astrid Brucker.
Without making too much spoiler, in the film there is a turning point marked by a wonderful little black dress that Lucy wears and that will be the beginning of a 'new game' between the protagonist and Joshua: "The designer of the lovely black dress is Joos Tricot. It had the level of sophistication and allure without being too sexy. Because Lucy is at her publishing job and she still has to look professional and this one dress was the best pick! It is the perfect transition from her librarian look to a woman who is planning on a date after work", Astrid Buckers says.

Todo el vestuario de Lucy sigue la misma línea y, luzca vestidos de fiesta o outfits más formales, vemos cómo estos están perfectamente adaptados a su propio estilo. ¿Cuáles fueron las marcas que funcionaron mejor para este personaje? Atentos a la respuesta de Astrid: "Entre las marcas que han funcionado para Lucy se encuentran Longchamp y Aritzia, y se han mezclado con piezas vintage únicas. Intentamos dar vida al personaje haciendo que llevara piezas únicas y femeninas y, a medida que su carácter cambia y asciende, se vuelve más sofisticado y menos femenino. Lucy es artística, creativa y piensa de forma diferente, por lo que todo está impregnado de un estilo especial."
Lucy's wardrobe follows the same line and, whether she wears party dresses or more formal outfits, we see how they are perfectly adapted to her own style. What were the brands that worked best for this character? Stay tuned for Astrid's answer: "Brands that worked for Lucy include Longchamp and Aritzia, and mixing the brands with unique vintage pieces. We tried to bring the character to life by having her wear one of a kind unique feminine pieces and as her character arc changes and she gets promoted her character becomes a bit more sophisticated and less girly. Lucy is artsy, creative and thinks outside the box so everything is imbued with a certain style that is special".

'The Hating Game' se ha posicionado entre las películas más vistas desde el mismo día de su estreno, lo que refleja claramente un gran trabajo detrás de cámaras. ¿Cómo fue trabajar en este proyecto? 'The Hating Game' has been among the most watched films since the very day of its release, which clearly reflects a great work behind the scenes. What was it like to work on this project? The designer tells us about it: It was a whirlwind and I was super busy. I loved the shopping and the fittings and finding all the perfect accessories. It was a wonderful opportunity!"
